North Ferriby VS Bridlington Town


North Ferriby FC suffered a heartbreaking defeat to Bridlington Town in the East Riding Senior Cup Final. A last gasp Lewis Dennison free kick securing a 2-1 victory for the Seasiders. 

The first half started cagey with both sides looking to get a foothold in the game. The Villagers had plenty of the ball and looked to break their opponents down. The Villagers created the games first chance. Good play down the Bridlington left from Danny Earl saw him beat the Bridlington full back. Earl pulled the ball into the area towards Josh Whiteley. Whiteley saw his shot deflected behind for a corner from close range. Levi Tarbotton was on defensive duty to deny Glen Sani a goal scoring opportunity, Tarbotton produced a wonderful last ditch tackle to deny the Bridlington number 10. Josh Whiteley played creator to Danny Earl but the energetic attacker’s header was not met cleanly under the pressure of the Bridlington defence. Tom Jackson was called into action to deny Ali Aydemir. The Ferriby stopper denting the Bridlington attacker as he rushed in on goal. Bridlington took the lead through Lewis Dennison. Dennison found space behind the Ferriby backline and finished past Jackson. The Villagers looked to get a way back into the game. Tom Corner came close when he met a well delivered ball from Adam Bolder. Unfortunately for the Villagers his header went just wide of the post. Levi Tarbotton showed his resilience to win the ball in the Bridlington area, he then found Whiteley who again saw his shot deflected wide for a corner. Danny Earl came close again but his shot at the back post was saved by James Hitchcock. After creating the majority of the chances in the first half, the Villagers looked to continue their efforts in the second half. Chris Bolder’s side were awarded the perfect opportunity to level when they were awarded a penalty. Josh Whiteley caused problems for the Bridlington defence with his direct running. Aydemir tripped Whiteley up resulting in a spot kick. Whiteley stepped up and fired his penalty into the goal and levelled the scores. The returning Danny Clarke rattled the post with a well hit ambitious offer as he looked to catch Hitchcock out. Just when it looked like the game was heading to penalties, Bridlington were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area. Lewis Dennison stood over the free kick and fired in a shot that rippled in the top corner and ensuring the visitors retained the East Riding Senior Cup.
