North Ferriby Football Club concluded their Northern Premier League East Division campaign with a loss following a 2-1 defeat at the Versa Sportswear Stadium against league champions, Redcar Athletic.
A Villagers guard of honour welcomed the champions to the sublime field of the Versa Sportswear Stadium, with a four hundred and forty three strong crowd unsuspecting of the entertainment to come.
It would prove a battling performance from the off for the Villagers, who enjoyed the games first half chance inside the opening five minutes; Lewis Dennison challenged well from a Ben Hatton cross, but Josh Mazfary claimed.
Ferriby’s defensive duties were called upon soon after, as the league champions began their search for the games opening goal, but, James Williamson denied midway through the half with a fantastically times challenge to deny Oscar Fletcher.
Despite the visitors continued probing, perhaps the best chance of games fell to the Villagers inside the final fifteen minutes; Sam Aynsley pounced on a loose ball, played Lewis Dennison in, but a decisive challenge played in Arun Jones who fired agonisingly wide.
Remaining on terms with the Champions, the Villagers enjoyed a late spell of pressure, enjoying a brace of set pieces but we were to head in to the break all square at nils each.
It was a new half of football the Villagers continued to hold the league champions in a superb fashion. And the first real chance of the half almost brought the opening goal; Redcar thought they’d scored but fired in to the side netting.
Multiple change came for the Villagers as the visitor began to up the pressure for that elusive goal, but Ferriby’s superb hard working display continued, with some fine defensive play.
Ferriby enjoyed an attacking spell on goals Tom McDonald amongst others can agonisingly close to securing the lead for the Villagers. Into the final ten, and Redcar were ahead, a cross in dropped to a Tillsley clearance but trickled under the bar. A cruel blow for the Villagers.
One became two as Oscar Fether doubled the Villagers lead just two minutes later. Tom McDonald lead the Ferriby charge and almost pulled on back, five minutes from time.
Ferriby continued in a positive manner and we’re awarded a penalty kick as we ticked over in to added time. Lewis Dennison stepped up to convert the spot kick with minutes to spare.
The villagers then thought they’d snatched a late equalising goal at the death, but the officials deemed the hosts attack to be offside to deny the villagers.
